A Study of the Ecological Values in the Tweets About the US Clean Energy Based on Text Mining Technology
Based on text mining technology, this study combines the methods of sentiment analysis and topic modeling with ecological discourse analysis to investigate the opinions and attitudes of tweets about the clean energy policies of the United States, and hence to explore their underlying ecological values. The results indicate that there is a predominant positive sentiment in the topics regarding goals, approaches, influences, positioning, and measures of developing clean energy, suggesting supportive evaluations of Twitter users.Conversely, there is a negative sentiment in the topics regarding the costs, challenges, problems, and obstacles, suggesting critical evaluations of Twitter users.Overall, the tweets reflect three kinds of ecological values:an eco-beneficial view on the energy-nature relationship,an eco-ambivalent and an eco-destructive view on the energy-society relationship, and an eco-destructive view on the energy-country relationship. This study can provide reference for monitoring public opinions on US energy policies.
