Current Status and Reflections on Research of Tibetan Biographies Abroad
Tibetan biography is an important genre of traditional Tibetan literature,history and religion,and an important part of the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation and ancient Chinese documents.In the 1960s,with the rise of biographical research,Tibetan biographical study gradually became a subject field of Ti-betan studies abroad.Since the 1990s,with the further deepening of research,the multi-disciplinary approaches and innovative achievements of Tibetan biographical study have injected fresh vitality into the de-velopment of Tibetan studies.This paper studies the main English works in the study of Tibetan biography in the past 30 years,by tentatively assorting the related literature into four major research topics based on biogra-phy type and research content,it introduces the main contents,theoretical methods and research perspectives of the relevant works in detail,analyzes their main discipline framework,propositional concepts and research ap-proaches.This paper summarizes the main characteristics and historical development of Tibetan biographical study at abroad in terms of their theoretical perspective and academic concerns,and it also gives a preliminary reflection and summary of the current state,trend and existing problems of Tibetan biographical study abroad.
