Effects of Grape Seed Procyanidins on Growth Performance of Pigs at Different Growth Stages
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary grape-seed procyanidins(GSPs)on the growth performance of pigs at different growth stages.Forty-eight"Duroc x Landrace xYorkshine"hybrid pigs with an average body weight of 7.00 kg were ran-domly divided into four groups with three replicate pens and four pigs per pen.The experiment was divided into three stages, the control group was fed a basal diet, and the experimental group was fed the basal diet supplemented with 50,100,150 mg/kg GSPs,100,150,200 mg/kg GSPs,and 150,200,250 mg/kg GSPs,respectively. The results showed that at the weaned piglet stage, supplementation of 100 mg/kg GSPs to the diet significantly increased ADG and ADFI(P<0.05);at the growing pig stage, diet supplemented with 150 mg/kg GSPs significantly increased ADG and ADFI,and significantly decreased F/G(P<0.05);at the finishing pig stage, the addition of GSPs did not sig-nificantly promote growth, and 250 mg/kg of GSPs instead decreased growth performance. In conclusion, the addition of appropriate amount of GSPs to the diet of pigs at different growth stages can improve the growth performance of weaned piglets and growing pigs.
