Research Progress on the Nutritional Regulation of Betaine on Sow and Piglet In-tegration
Betaine was a trimethyl derivative of glycine, primarily derived from sugar beets and their by-products.As a methyl donor,it could convert homocysteine to methionine and provide S-adenosylmethionine.Betaine boasts various functions, such as promoting growth and development, enhancing reproductive performance, boosting immune and antioxidant functions, regulating metabolism, and improving product quality.Consequently,it had been widely applied as an important nutritional additive in livestock and poultry produc-tion.The nutrition and health status of the maternal body were crucial for the growth, development, and metabolism of the offspring. In swine production, the sow and piglet integration nutritional regulation strategy was commonly employed to improve the reproductive performance of sows and enhanced the growth performance, intestinal health, immune function, and nutritional metabolism of their off-spring.Based on this, this article reviewed the role and potential value of betaine in the sow and piglet integration nutritional regulation for pigs, aiming to provide a basis for its application in pig production.
