Probiotics were a kind of active microorganisms that were beneficial to the body.They could inhibit the growth of harmful mi-croorganisms in the intestine,maintain the balance of gastrointestinal flora,and had a positive impact on the healthy growth and devel-opment of animals.Prebiotics were food components that promote the growth and activity of specific bacteria in the digestive tract.They were not absorbed by the digestive tract,but were beneficial to the host.In the current context of prohibition,the development of probi-otics and prebiotics as alternatives was one of the options to maintain animal health and performance.This article reviewed the develop-ment technology of probiotics and prebiotics for pigs,and revealed the necessity,importance and feasibility of them in healthy breeding,so as to provide reference for researchers and practitioners.
