Research and application progress in mucin in colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer(RC)is the third most common malignant tumor, with more than 150 000 new ca-ses in 2023 and a mortality rate of 8%in the world. Therefore,it is of great significance for the prevention,identifica-tion,screening and treatment of CRC.Recent studies have shown that intestinal mucus plays an important role in the occurrence and development of gut-related diseases, and mucin,an important component of mucus, can induce the oc-currence of tumors through abnormal methylation and O-glycoylation modification. In this review, the effects of mucins on cell cycle, apoptosis and tumor microenvironment in CRC were reviewed, and the potential value of mucins in prog-nosis assessment and treatment of CRC patients was discussed. The in-depth exploration of mucin will provide a new direction for the pathogenesis of CRC,the search for simple and efficient diagnostic markers and the exploration of CRC treatment.
