Research progress of macrophages in the pain mechanisms of osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis(OA)is a common chronic joint disease,whose main symptoms are joint pain and limitation of movement.Relieving pain is the primary purpose of the clinical treatment for OA.It is urged to explore more effective ways as the methods currently mastered by us are limited both in quantity and efficacy.Macrophages are significant immune cells in human body,which have multiple functions like eliminating pathogens,participating in im-mune response and anti-aging.With the continuous researches in recent years,more and more evidences show that macrophages play an important role in both the peripheral and central mechanisms of OA pain,and targeting macropha-ges has gradually become a potential direction for the treatment.This article reviews the recent progress of macrophages in OA pain mechanisms and its therapeutic prospects.
