Discussion on the Spatial Adaptability Transformation of Existing Public Building into Fulltime Care Facilities for the Elderly:a Case Study of Xi'an City
Against the backdrop of urban renewal with a focus on home-based and community elderly care, transforming existing public buildings into full-time care facilities for the elderly in the community can not only effectively utilize the idle resources of the city, but also meet the diverse elderly care needs of the community. This article conducts in-depth research on typical cases of full-time care facilities for elderly people in Xi'an using renovated public buildings. It is found that in the two main types of independent frame structures and attached frame shear structures, there are generally problems such as excessive building depth, obstructed lighting and ventilation conditions, excessive number of beds in the living room, insufficient privacy and comfort. It is proposed to prioritize the selection of existing public buildings on the top or bottom floor, with smaller building depth, and provide small-scale living spaces mainly consisting of single and double rooms after renovation,in order to provide reference for the construction and development of full-time care facilities for elderly people in urban existing public buildings that have been renovated.
