As the basic unit of urban and rural life,community is not only the space carrier for daily life of residents,but also the practice place for national governance and local autonomy.Taking the transformation and renovation of a typical old lane in downtown Shanghai as an example,this paper records the using circumstance of public space by residents before transformation,and discusses the changing process and forming mechanism of the public and private boundary of lane,in addition,based on the implementation circumstance of the transformation and renovation project and return visit of the project,it puts forward the series strategy aimed at the lane renewal project.
