On Rai San'yō's Literary Criticism of Mencius under the Visual Threshold of Sinosphere
As a method of reading and studying Mencius,the literary criticism of Mencius has been accepted by scholars from different countries in Sinosphere.Mencius criticisms in different countries were largely identical,but also had some differences.Rai San'yō,a Japanese scholar in Edo period,argued that the texts of Mencius had"the tone of the Warring States Period",and suggested to"review Mencius from the writing style".In commentaries and reading notes,he concluded the styles of Mencius and set forth his ideas of literary criticism.Rai San'yō's study on Mencius could be seen as an"extraterritorial echo"of Chinese traditional Mencius criticism.
