On Zhu Yizun's Method and Thought of the Study of Confucian Classics
In the early Qing Dynasty,Zhu Yizun's research on Confucian classics has been different from other contemporary scholars. He compiled historical materials with philological and bibliographic methods, attempted to construct a system of the history of Confucian classics, and finished the monumental compilation work Jing Yi Kao(《经义考》).His thought of Confucian classics is relatively conservative and unique, his concept of Confucian orthodoxy inherited from Han Confucianism, some of his understanding adhered to the teaching of Han and Tang Confucian scholars, while his criticism to Neo-Confucianism of Song Dynasty was lack of subtle thinking and incisive idea. Therefore, for him,it was difficult to adapt to the new academic trends in the early Qing Dynasty.Nevertheless, the extensive content as well as the historical system of Confucian classics of Jing Yi Kao did have a great academic significance, which should be recognized and revalued.
