History,Legends and Memory:On the Legend of Ji Xiaolan in Urumqi from the Perspective of Historical Anthropology
Reviewing the generation,spread and extinction of the legend of Ji Xiaolan in Urumqi,the historical situation behind the evolution of the folklore could be clearly seen.As a specific historical memory,legend is not only an oral inheritance of folk tradition,but also a purposeful contrivance arranged by local officials,intellectual elites and lay folk.The value of the legend lies not in the reality,but in the consideration of their habitat.This finding enlightens us that in the study of legends,we should shift our focus from object to subject.
