On the Manuscript Xi Chen An Shi Gao by Wang Bing'en in"National Central Library"of Taipei
The"National Central Library"in Taipei houses a manuscript of Wang Bing'en,a Sichuan poet who lived in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China period, named Xi Chen An Shi Gao(《息尘庵诗稿》).This is the only extant poetry collection of Wang, and the library has depicted it as a handwritten manuscript of the definitive edition by the poem himself. With a review on handwriting, notes and commentaries, this article believed that this manuscript cannot reflect the complete content of the poetry collection. It is a transcribed manuscript as well as an unfinished, revised version.Yang Yun Guan Shi Cun(《养云馆诗存》),an earlier poetry collection that was also written by Wang Bing'en,has only fragments survived.Though,we could still compare Xi Chen An Shi Gao with these fragments, which would lead to the discovery that,as a poetry collection in chronicle style, the current manuscript shows an internal contradiction, that is,the chronological order of the poems and the text revision could not correspond to each other. The manuscript has important historical literature value:it fills the gaps of the existing biography of Wang Bing'en and provides information relevant to his social network and lifetime;it is also a conducive material for the understanding of modern Chinese poets and their poetry collections.
