On the Political Behavior of"Talking about Current Affairs"among Recluses in Wuzhong in the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty
Since the Mid-Ming Dynasty,an important group of recluses gradually formed in Wuzhong, who showed a distinct sense of independent subjectivity and engaged in determining their own political behavior to a certain extent.Different from traditional literati who have to make an either-or choice between seclusion and official career, though they were still"not seeking advancement in political career",these recluses did not escape from secular life and formed certain associations with literati, local people and even officials. They broke the traditional boundary, actively made suggestions to folk customs, local affairs and national politics.Their independent thinking on the relationship between the political field and the secular life,as well as the political regime and the individual, constituted a deep mechanism of the political advice from the recluses group. It also represented the ideological trends of Wuzhong literati who lived under the unique social conditions after the Mid-Ming Dynasty.
