Abstract
In the early Tang Dynasty, princes served as local governors,a role deeply influenced by the political situation of the time.During the early years of the Zhenguan(貞觀)era, the Tang court's control over many regions was unstable.Rebellions frequently erupted in areas previously divided among warlords at the end of the Sui Dynasty.Emperor Tang Taizong responded by appointing princes as local governors to strengthen central control over these regions. This strategy, along with other measures solidified the Royal Household's position within the national power system In the later period of the Zhenguan era, princes played an important role in the transition of supreme power. The policy changes regarding princes during Emperor Xuanzong's reign were a result of the political reordering from the Shenlong(神能)period to the early Kaiyuan(開元)period.Emperor Tang Xuanzong and his courtiers promoted the political concept of'public interest',leading to the exclusion of princes from the power structure. This shift also signifies a transformation in the mode of medieval imperial governance.
