Comparison of the capture efficacy of different types of snap traps with different baits against rodent in rural areas
Objective In order to provide evidences for choice of snap trap and bait during rodent surveillance, the capture efficacy of different types of snap trap with different baits were compared. Methods Thecapture rate and species composition of rodent were compared by medium and large trap were placed alternately in rural residential areas and farmland with raw peanuts and fresh meat, respectively. Results The capture rate of large trap was higher than that of medium trap(P=0.000,OR=3.280,95%CI:2.414-4.456),and the capture rate of fresh meat as bait was lower than that of raw peanut(P=0.020,OR=0.723,95%CI:0.550-0.950).Larger trap with raw peanutbait had advantages in capturing Apodemus agrarius, the dominant species in farmland, and large trap was easier to capture larger rattus norvegicus. Conclusion The different type of traps and baits have great influence on the capture efficacy. It is suggested to select large trap with raw peanut.
