Analysis of fly surveillance results in Guangdong Province in 2023
Objective To understand species, population density and seasonal fluctuation of flies in Guangdong Province,so as to provide the scientific basis for prevention and control of flies. Methods Using the cage trapping method, fly density was monitored in four types of habitats, including farm produce markets, residential areas,catering-related outdoor environments and green belts in 21 cities of Guangdong Province in 2023.The obtained data were analyzed using Excel 2010 and SPSS 24.0 softwares.Single factor analysis of variance was used to compare fly density in different habitats. Results In 2023,8 618 fly traps were deployed in Guangdong Province, and 11 369 flies were captured, with a total density of 1.32 flies per cage. The dominant fly species were Musca domestica and Musca sorbens, accounting for 54.39%and 22.59%,respectively.The densities of flies in different habitats from high to low were as follows:farmers'markets, residential areas, external environments of catering places, and green belts, which were 1.90,1.22,1.20,and 0.95 flies/cage,respectively.The overall seasonal fluctuations of fly density showed a double-peak pattern, and the peaks appeared in May and September, respectively, with the density of 1.69 and 1.80 flies/cage.Conclusion In Guangdong Province, the density of Musca domestica is the highest, and the peak period of fly density is from May to September.Farmers'markets and green belts are the key places for fly control. In the process of fly control, the corresponding control measures should be taken according to the dominant fly species in different habitat and their breeding characteristics.
