Clinical characteristics of neonates with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection in the end of 2022
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical characteristics of the neonates infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in the end of 2022 so as to provide guidance for clinical treatment of the neonates with SARS-CoV-2 infec-tion,METHODS The neonates with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection who were treated in the Women and Children's Hospital,School of Medicine,Xiamen University from Dec 17,2022 to Jan 9,2023 were recruited as the research subjects. The results of laboratory tests and clinical characteristics of the neonates with the infection were retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS Totally 100 children with SARS-CoV-2 infection were enrolled in the study, the age was 17.5(8.3,22.0)days,the gestational age was 39.3(38.4,40.1)weeks,the birth weight was 3 165(2 991,3 522)g.Among the 100 neonates, there were 85 mild cases,15 common cases and 1 severe case. All of the neonates had clear contact history, most of whom acquired the infection through horizontal transmis-sion.Fever(91.0%)was the major clinical manifestation, with the intermittent fever 2.5(1.5,3.0)days.40(40.0%)neonates were complicated with respiratory system symptoms, and 23(23.0%)were complicated with digestive system symptoms. The result of laboratory test showed that the WBC counts were not remarkably ele-vated,C-reactive protein(CRP)and procalcitonin(PCT)of the most cases were in normal range. The age and body temperature were negatively correlated with the length of hospital stay(P<0.05),while the fever time was positively correlated with the length of hospital stay(P<0.05),there was no close relationship. The birth weight, gestational age and initial viral load were not associated with the length of hospital stay.CONCLUSION The neonates with mild SARS-CoV-2 infection are dominant, fever is the major clinical symptom. The overall prognosis is favorable after symptomatic and supportive treatment. The birth weight, gestational age and nucleic acid Ct value are not associated with the length of hospital stay.
