Association of Apo E gene polymorphisms with respiratory tract infection in patients with coronary heart disease
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association of apolipoprotein E(Apo E)gene polymorphisms with respir-atory tract infections in patients with coronary heart disease.METHODS Totally 125 cases of patients with coro-nary heart disease admitted to Hengshui People's Hospital from Jan.2021 to Mar.2023 were selected as the study subjects, and they were divided into an infection group of 48 cases and a non-infection group of 77 cases according to respiratory tract infections. The distribution of respiratory infectious pathogens were analyzed,Apo E gene pol-ymorphisms were detected by polymerase chain reaction(PCR),the distribution characteristics of ApoE gene pol-ymorphism between the two groups of patients were compared, and logistic regression analysis was used to sum-marize the risk factors affecting respiratory tract infections in patients with coronary heart disease.RESULTS A to-tal of 62 strains of pathogenic bacteria were cultured and isolated from 48 infected patients, including 22 strains of gram-positive bacteria,38 strains of gram-negative bacteria, and 2 strains of fungi, with Escherichia coli,Kleb-siella pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae predominating. There were three alleles of Apo E gene,e2,e3,and e4,with a total of six genotypes:e2/2,e3/3,e4/4,e2/3,e2/4,and e3/4.The genotype e3/3 and the allele frequency of e3 in the infection group were lower than those in the non-infection group, while the genotype e4/4 and the allele frequency of ε4 were higher than those in the non-infection group(all P<0.05).Apo E e4 allele car-riers was a risk factor for respiratory tract infections in patients with coronary heart disease, while carrying the Apo E ε3 allele carriers were a protective factor for respiratory tract infections in patients with coronary heart dis-ease(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Apo E gene polymorphisms were associated with respiratory tract infections in pa-tients with coronary heart disease,in which the e4 allele might promote respiratory tract infections, while e3 allele might inhibit respiratory tract infections.
