Prevalence, virulence genes and drug susceptibility of Streptococcus agalactiae strains from perinatal pregnant women in Haikou
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence, virulence genes and drug susceptibility of Streptococcus aga-lactiae strains from perinatal pregnant women in Haikou,Hainan Province.METHODS The urogenital tract secre-tions and rectal swab specimens were collected from the perinatal pregnant women who were treated in outpatient departments of Haikou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Hainan Province People's Hospital from Mar 2019 to Sep 2021.Multilocus sequence typing(MLST)and capsular polysaccharide genotyping were carried out for the isolated S.agalactiae strains, the virulence genes were detected, and the drug susceptibility testing was performed.RESULTS Totally 300 strains of S.agalactiae were isolated from all the specimens,237 of which were successfully carried out for the MLST,and 19 types of ST were detected in total, and the major ST types were ST1,ST19,ST23,ST17,ST12 and ST61.Totally 5 types Ⅰa,Ⅰ b,Ⅱ,m and V were detected, and the type Ⅲ was the predominant capsular polysaccharide type.CAMP was not detected;hylB,cylE,PI-1,PI-2a and PI-2 b were detected positive. The strains were sensitive to the commonly used antibiotics such as penicillin but were resistant to erythromycin and azithromycin.CONCLUSION ST1,ST19 and ST23 are dominant among the ST types of the perinatal pregnant women in Haikou,Hainan Province. The type Ⅲ is the predominant capsular poly-saccharide type. All of the strains carry with the hylB and cylE virulence genes and carry with at least one of PI-1,PI-2a and PI-2b.Penicillin is recommended for clinical use.
