Epidemiological characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus infection in children of Hangzhou from 2018 to 2023
OBJECTIVE To understand the epidemiological characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)in-fection in children of Hangzhou,Zhejiang Province before and after COVID-19 epidemic from Jan 2018 to Jun 2023.METHODS A total of 21 453 children who were treated in the outpatient department and hospitalized in Zhe-jiang Province People's Hospital from Jan 2018 to Jun 2023 were recruited as the research subjects. The informa-tion of the cases was statistically analyzed. The RNA of RSV was detected by means of polymerase chain reaction(PCR)fluorescent probe method.RESULTS Totally 3 970 cases of samples were detected in 2018,4 109 cases in 2019,2 134 cases in 2020,5 845 cases in 2021,4 198cases in 2022,1 197 cases in Jan-Jun 2023;the positive rates were 20.30%,9.17%,17.15%,26.30%,11.58%and 11.19%,respectively.There was significant differ-ence in the positive rate of RSV among the years from 2018 to 2022(P<0.05).The positive rate of RSV was higher in 2020,2021 and 2022 than in 2019(P<0.05).The positive rate varied in the seasons,it was higher in winter, while the positive rate showed counterseasonal rise in summer of 2021 and spring of 2023.The positive rate of RSV was 16.93%(2 113/1 2479)among the 12 479 male children, the positive rate of RSV was 16.64%(1 493/8 974)among the 8 974 female children, and there was no significant difference in the positive rate of RSV between the male children and the female children. In terms of the age,the infancy was the age group that was the most susceptible to the infection.CONCLUSION The article reveals the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of RSV infection among the children of Hangzhou from Jan 2018 to Jun 2023.The prevalence of RSV is associated with the season and age,in addition, the public health measures or strategies are the leading causes for the epidemiological change of RSV.
