Paracoccidioidomycosis is an acute to chronic systemic fungal disease mainly caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis infection. It is one of the most important systemic fungal diseases, highly prevalent in Central and South America, and a leading cause of death of non-immunosuppressive individuals in Brazil.Recently.it has been included in the List of Neglected Diseases by the World Health Organization(WHO),and Paracoccidioides bra-siliensis,as the major pathogenic bacterium,is also in the first"List of Key Fungal Pathogens"newly issued by the WHO.This disease is usually considered an occupational disease for agricultural and construction workers,re-quiring long-term and complex treatment, showing severe external skin clinical manifestations, and seriously af-fecting the quality of life and work of patients.Traditionally,it is believed that its epidemic area is limited to some parts of Central and South America, but an increasing number of reports of imported cases from non-epidemic are-as came with the increase of global population mobility and climate change.Recently, many studies have also posed challenges to its traditional concept of epidemiology.Although China is not an epidemic area of Paracoccid-ioidomycosis,there have been reports of imported cases of Paracoccidioidomycosis. So it is necessary to understand its current situation, especially for those who are engaged in research on the infectious fungal diseases. On the ba-sis of summarizing the important progress of research on Paracoccidioidomycosis, this review focuses on introdu-cing the latest epidemiological situation and discussing new insights from molecular research as well as clinical,di-agnostic,and therapeutic aspects.
