Risk factors for genital tract group B Streptococcus infection in pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes
OBJECTIVE To explore the prevalence and risk factors for the genital tract group B Streptococcus(GBS)infection in the pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy and analyze the pregnancy outcomes.METHODS The clinical data were collected from 282 pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy who were treated in Hangzhou Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from Jan 2022 to Dec 2022 and were retrospectively ana-lyzed.The pregnant women were divided into the GBS infection group with 42 cases and the non-GBS infection group with 240 cases according to the status of genital tract GBS infection. The risk factors for the genital tract GBS infection and the influence on pregnancy outcomes were observed.RESULTS Among the 282 pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy,42 had genital tract GBS infection, with the incidence 14.89%.No less than 35 years of age, vaginitis and diabetes mellitus were the independent risk factors for the genital tract GBS infection(OR=2.375,2.042,2.210,P<0.05).The 42 pregnant women with GBS infection were divided into 24 cases of high colonization amount and 18 cases of low colonization amount according to the colonization amount of GBS.The incidence rates of premature delivery, cesarean section and chorioamnionitis were significantly higher among the pregnant women with high colonization amount of GBS than among the pregnant women with low colonization amount of GBS(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The incidence of genital tract GBS infection is high among the pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy. The influencing factors for the genital tract GBS infection include the no less than 35 years of age, vaginitis and diabetes mellitus. The high colonization amount of GBS has great impact on the adverse pregnancy outcomes. It is necessary for the hospital to take targeted treatment and intervention measures so as to reduce the risk of genital tract GBS infection in the pregnant women of late trimester of pregnancy.
