Association of HCMV infection with retinal function, insulin resistance and glucolipid metabolism indexes of patients with diabetic retinopathy
OBJECTIVE To explore the influence of human cytomegalovirus(HCMV)infection on retinal function, insulin resistance and glucolipid metabolism indexes of the patients with diabetic retinopathy.METHODS A total of 103 patients with diabetic retinopathy who were treated in Haikou Orthopaedic and Diabetes Hospital from May 2020 to May 2023 were retrospectively recruited as the research subjects and were divided into the infection group with 41 cases and the non-infection group with 62 cases according to the status of complication with HCMV infec-tion.The retinal function, insulin resistance and glucolipid metabolism indexes were observed and compared be-tween the two groups of patients.RESULTS Of the 103 patients with diabetic retinopathy,41 were complicated with HCMV infection, with the incidence rate of HCMV infection 39.81%.The thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL),macular thickness, mean defect(MD)value and fasting insulin(FINS)level were significantly lower in the infection group than in the non-infection group(P<0.05);the homeostatic model assessment of insu-lin resistance(HOMA-IR),fasting blood glucose(FBG)level and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)level were significantly higher in the infection group than in the non-infection group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The incidence of HCMV infection is high among the patients with diabetic retinopathy. The HCMV infection may result in the disturbance of glucolipid metabolism, aggravate the severity of retinopathy, and promote the insulin resistance.
