Epidemiological characteristics of influenza among children in Wuhan from 2017 to 2022
OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of influenza among the children in Wuhan from 2017 to 2022 so as to provide basis for prevention and control of influenza among the children.METHODS Based on the monitoring data of influenza from Chinese National Influenza Surveillance Information System, the epidemiological characteristics of influenza and prevalent strains among the children of Wuhan were analyzed by means of descriptive epidemiology method from 2017 to 2022.RESULTS The influenza-like illness(ILI)cases ac-counted for 6.35%among the outpatient and emergency cases in 2017,1.69%in 2018,3.77%in 2019,2.8%in 2020,0.43%in 2021,0.23%in 2022,and there was significant difference in the proportion of ILI cases among the years(x2=125 368.853,P<0.05).A total of 6 095 samples were collected from the ILI cases,730 of which were tested positive, the positive rate was 11.98%,it was the highest(20.89%)in 2017 and the lowest(5.75%)in 2021,and there were significant difference in the positive rates of influenza viruses among the years(X2=208.34,P<0.05).The positive rate of H3N2 was 36.71%(268),higher than 33.01%(241)of Victoria,26.44%(193)of H1N1,and 3.84%(28)of Yamagata.Victoria,Yamagata,H3N2 and H1NI show alternate prevalence trends in 2017-2019.Victoria and H3N2 were the major prevalent strains in 2020-2022,and Victoria was the only type of strain that was detected in 2021.CONCLUSION The influenza shows seasonal prevalence a-mong the children in Wuhan. The different subtypes of strains coexist or alternately become the dominant strains. The positive rate of influenza virus is relatively high among the student group, which the prevention and control of influenza should be focused on.
