Monitoring of prevalence of diarrhea among children aged less than 5 years old in a sentinel monitoring hospital of Hohhot from 2020 to 2022
OBJECTIVE To investigate the common species of pathogens isolated from the viral diarrhea children aged less than 5 years old in Hohhot and analyze the epidemiological characteristics so as to take effective preven-tion measures.METHODS The stool samples and individual information were collected from the children aged less than 5 years old who were hospitalized in Inner Mongolia Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital due to diarrhea from Jan 1,2020 to Dec 31,2022.The major pathogens such Rotavirus,Norovirus,Sapovirus and Adenovirus that may cause the viral diarrhea were detected by means of real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reac-tion(RT-PCR)and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The result of monitoring was statistically ana-lyzed.RESULTS Among 526 stool samples that were collected from the hospitalized children with diarrhea, totally 110 stool samples were detected with Rotavirus,Norovirus,Sapovirus and Adenovirus, with the total detection rate 21.10%;the detection rate of Rotavirus was 7.80%,Norovirus 10.46%,Sapovirus 0.95%,Adenovirus 1.90%.There was significant difference in the detection rate of Norovirus between sexes(x2=3.869,P=0.049).Except for Adenovirus, there were significant differences in the detection rates of Rotavirus(x2=14.209,P<0.001),Norovirus(x2=13.555,P<0.001)and Spovirus(x2=6.376,P=0.024)between the years.CONCLUSION Rotavirus and Norovirus are the major pathogens detected from the viral diarrhea children aged less than 5 years old in Hohhot. The infection tends to peak in cold seasons and is prevalent among the children aged between 10 months and 20 months old,and the detection rate of viruses of the male children is higher than that of the female children.
