Peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis caused by Enterococcus gallinarum:a case report and literature review
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical characteristics of peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis(PDAP)caused by Enterococcus gallinarum.METHODS The clinical data of a patient diagnosed as PDAP caused by a rare pathogen of Enterococcus gallinarum was retrospectively analyzed, and the related literatures was re-viewed.RESULTS In this case, the patient had recurrent PDAP,and the causative organism was Enterococcus gallinarum on culture of the peritoneal dialysis fluid, and the PDAP was cured by the combination of two sensitive antibiotics in a full course of treatment. The PDAP caused by Enterococcus gallinarum was rare, easy to recur, and had a poor prognosis,if necessary, the peritoneal dialysis tube needed to be removed.CONCLUSION Entero-coccus gallinarum was a rare opportunistic pathogen causing PDAP,and the empirical treatment plan in the guide-lines failed to cover this pathogen, requiring early identification and rational treatment.
