HRV infection and expression of eosinophils and total IgE in children with acute asthma attack
OBJECTIVE To explore the human rhinovirus(HRV)infection status and the expression of eosinophil(EOS)and total immunoglobulin E(IgE)in children with acute attack of asthma.METHODS A total of 186 chil-dren with acute attack of asthma in Dezhou Hospital of Qilu Hospital in Shandong University from Jan 2022 to Oct 2023 were enrolled as the research subjects, and 120 healthy children under physical examination during the same period were included in the control group. The baseline data and expression of serum EOS and IgE were compared between the two groups. The HRV infection status in children of the study group was detected by fluo-rescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR).According to the detection results, they were divided into the HRV infection group(n=90)and non-infection group(n=96),HRV infection in children of different ages of the study group was analyzed, and the serum EOS and IgE levels and clinical pulmonary infection score(CPIS)were compared between the two groups.According to disease severity, children with HRV infection and asthma were classified into the mild group(n=52)and moderate-to-severe group(n=38),and the levels of EOS and IgE and CPIS score were compared between the two groups.Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between serum EOS,total IgE and CPIS score.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was a-dopted to analyze the diagnostic value of EOS and IgE levels on HRV infection in children with acute attack of asthma.RESULTS The levels of EOS and total IgE in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Among the 186 children,90 cases were positive for HRV and 96 cases were negative, with an infection rate of 48.39%.Patients aged between 0-1 and 2-3 years had higher infection rates, accounting for 48.21%and 61.19%,respectively.The levels of EOS and total IgE and score of CPIS in the HRV infection group were higher than those in the non-infection group(P<0.05).The EOS and total IgE levels and CPIS score were lower in the mild group than those in the moderate-to-severe group(P<0.05).Pearson correlation coeffi-cient analysis revealed that serum EOS and total IgE levels were positively correlated with CPIS score(P<0.05).The sensitivity of combined detection of EOS and total IgE levels to predict HRV infection in children with acute asthma attack was 91.11%,with the specificity of 62.50%.And the area under the cure(AUC)was 0.908.The combined detection for the prediction had higher diagnostic value.CONCLUSION The HRV infection rate in children with acute attack of asthma is high, and the levels of serum EOS and IgE also significantly increase. And the levels of EOS and IgE are increased with the aggravation of the disease. Both of them have high diagnostic value on HRV infection.
