Drug resistance of respiratory tract Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates and association between CXCL5 gene polymorphism and sensitivity to penicillin
OBJECTIVE To explore the drug resistance of respiratory tract Streptococcus pneumoniae and analyze the relationship between CXC chemokine ligand 5(CXCL5)gene polymorphism and sensitivity to penicillin.METHODS A total of 82 patients with respiratory tract S.pneumoniae infection who were treated in the First Peo-ple's Hospital of Zunyi City(Third Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College)and Chongqing Beibei District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from Jun 2021 to Jun 2023 were assigned as the study group, and 84 healthy people who received physical examination were chosen as the control group. The drug resistance of the S.pneumoniae and the association between CXCL5 gene polymorphism and sensitivity to penicillin were observed.RESULTS The S.pneumoniae strains showed high resistance to erythromycin(90.24%),azithromycin(89.02%),tetracycline(86.59%)and clindamycin(84.15%),while the strains were highly sensitive to linezolid(100.00%),cefepime(98.78%),penicillin(90.24%),ceftriaxone(97.56%),cefotaxime(97.56%)and chlor-amphenicol(91.46%).The frequencies of AA,AG genotypes and A allele at rs425535 locus of CXCL5 gene were higher in the study group than in the control group(P<0.05),while the frequencies of GG genotype and G allele of the study group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).There were significant differences in the frequencies of AA,AG,GG genotypes and A,G alleles at rs425535 locus of CXCL5 gene among the patients who varied in the sensitivity to penicillin(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The respiratory tract S.pneumoniae strains are highly resistant to erythromycin, azithromycin, tetracycline and clindamycin, while the strains are highly sensitive to linezolid, cefepime, penicillin, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime and chloramphenicol. The patients with respiratory tract S.pneumoniae infection are associated with the CXCL5 gene polymorphism, and there is certain relationship be-tween the CXCL5 gene polymorphism and the sensitivity to penicillin.
