The formation of staphylococcal biofilm is a complex process with multiple factors and stages and is also an important mechanism for multi-drug resistance of the Staphylococcus and persistent infection.Currently,there is no effective drug to eradicate the infections caused by the staphylococcal biofilm.As compared with modern anti-biotics,traditional Chinese medicine has its unique antibacterial effect with less resistance.From the perspective of the process and regulatory mechanisms of staphylococcal biofilm formation,the progress of relevant researches on anti-staphylococcal biofilms effect of traditional Chinese medicine and its extracts that were achieved in recent years were reviewed in the article,focusing on the single use of traditional Chinese medicine or the anti-biofilm ac-tion mechanisms and effect of combined use of antibiotics,it may provide reference for clinical use of antibiotics and development of novel traditional Chinese medicine for anti-staphylococcal biofilm.
