Design and configuration of hand hygiene facilities in healthcare buildings of China and the UK from perspective of infection prevention and control
Hand hygiene is the major way of reducing infections, and the design and configuration of hand hygiene facilities is critical to infection prevention and control efforts in healthcare buildings.Through the introduction of the relevant experience of the UK,this study aimed to explore and improve the understanding of hand hygiene fa-cilities,and to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infection.Based on the guidelines represented by the UK's Health Building Note 00-09:Infection Control in the Built Environment,we analyze the hand hygiene facilities in healthcare buildings in the UK,summarize and compare the current situation of hand hygiene facilities in health-care buildings in China, and puts forward the enlightenment brought by the UK experience.Based on the concept of infection prevention and control, the UK is more detailed and comprehensive in the design and configuration of hand hygiene facilities in healthcare buildings represented by wash-hand basins and hand-rinse basins, water and taps, soap dispensers, and hand dryers.Compared with the UK,the relevant content of hand hygiene facilities in healthcare buildings in China is more dispersed and abbreviated, and there is room for further improvement.Part of the UK experience can provide valuable reference for the future revision of Chinese standards and guidelines, such as Specification of Hand Hygiene for Healthcare Workers,Code for Design of Infectious Diseases Hospital and Code for Design of General Hospital.
