Risk factors for gastrointestinal endoscope-associated infections and progress of research on protective strategies
The occurrence of hospital-acquired infections in gastrointestinal endoscopy centres is an important issue for safety management of hospitals, and its risk factors and protection strategies are of great concern. The risk of infection in gastrointestinal endoscopy centres cannot be ignored due to multiple factors such as the patient's own condition, failure of cleaning and disinfection of gastrointestinal endoscopes, diffusion of aerosols in the consulta-tion and decontamination areas, and the operation of healthcare personnel.A number of preventive measures have been implemented to reduce the incidence of infection, including strengthening patient management, improving the quality of gastrointestinal endoscopic reprocessing, controlling and eliminating aerosols, and improving the operat-ing skills and protective awareness of medical staff. This article reviews the risk factors for hospital-acquired infec-tions in gastrointestinal endoscopy centres in both domestic and international studies, and discusses and evaluates the current protection strategies with the aim of providing guidance and reference for clinical practice.
