Effects of short-time disinfection on pathogenic bacteria, nutrients and immunoactive substances in shared breast milk in primary hospitals
OBJECTIVE To explore the effects of short-time disinfection on pathogenic bacteria, nutrients and im-munoactive substances in shared breast milk in primary hospitals.METHODS A total of 110 samples of breast milk that would be stored in the shared breast milk bank of Longyou County People's Hospitals in Zhejiang Prov-ince from Nov.2022 to Oct.2023 were selected as the study subjects.Bacterial detection, killing of standard strains, nutritional composition and immunoactive substances of breast milk before and after short-term disinfec-tion were compared.RESULTS Before short-term disinfection, bacteria were detected in 26(23.64%)out of 110 breast milk samples, and after short-term disinfection, bacteria were detected in 3(2.73%)out of 110 breast milk samples. The bacterial detection rate of breast milk after short-term disinfection was significantly lower than that before short-term disinfection(P<0.05).The killing rate of standard strains of bacteria in sterile breast milk was more than 99.99%.There were no significant differences in the nutrient ratios of carbohydrate, fat, proteins and dry matter before and after short-term disinfection. There were no significant differences in the values of immuno-active substances such as IgG,IgM,sIg A,lysozyme and lactoferrin before and after short-term disinfection.CONCLUSION The short-term disinfection method used for breast milk disinfection in shared breast milk ware-houses of grassroots hospitals can significantly reduce the bacterial detection rate of breast milk, with a high bac-terial killing rate and minimal impact on the nutritional components and immunologically active substances in breast milk.
