Effect of EBV infection on miR-155 and Th17/Treg expression in peripheral blood of patients with chronic periodontitis
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)infection on the expression of micror-na-155(miR-155)and T-helper cell type 17/regulatory T cells(TH17/Treg)in peripheral blood of patients with chronic periodontitis.METHODS A total of 66 patients with chronic periodontitis admitted to Deyang Stomatologi-cal Hospital from Jan.2022 to Dec.2023 were enrolled and divided into the EBV-infected group with 21 cases and non-EBV group with 45 cases. The levels of miR-155,Treg cells,TH17 cells were measured by real-time fluores-cence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-FQPCR)and flow cytometry, receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to analyze the predictive value.RESULTS The percentage of smoking history(57.14%),plaque index(2.58±0.27),miR-155 level(2.32±0.31),Th17 cells[(3.85±0.52)%]and Th17/Treg ratio(1.84±0.17)in EBV infected group were higher than those in non-EBV group(P<0.05),the percentage of Treg cells[(2.94±0.31)%]showed the opposite trend(P<0.05).The area under the curve(AUC)of the combina-tion of miR-155,Treg,Th17 and Th17/Treg was statistically higher than those of the single indicators(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The expressions of miR-155 and Th17/Treg are related to EBV infection in patients with chronic periodontitis, and their combined detection can effectively predict EBV infection for chronic periodontitis.
