Objective To explore the effectiveness of using the SBAR (situation、background、assess-ment、recommendation) communication model in the emergency care of patients with status epilepticus. Meth-ods A retrospective collection of medical records from 68 patients with status epilepticus treated at Huanghe Sanmenxia Hospital between January 2023 and January 2024 was conducted. Based on the different communication methods employed, the patients were divided into a study group (SBAR communication model) and a control group (conventional communication model). The quality of life, complications, and physician satisfaction with nursing care were compared between the two groups. Results Before the intervention, there were no significant differ-ences in mental health, cognitive function,or physiological function scores between the two groups (P>0.05). After implementing the SBAR communication model, scores for mental health, cognitive function, and overall quality of life improved in both groups, with the study group showing significantly higher scores in emotional health,cogni-tive function, and comprehensive quality of life compared to the control group (P<0.001). The incidence of com-plications during hospitalization was 8.82% in the study group, significantly lower than the 41.18% in the control group (P<0.05). Physician satisfaction with nursing care was 97.06% in the study group, higher than the 79.41% in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion The use of the SBAR commu-nication model in the emergency care of patients with status epilepticus can significantly improve their quality of life, reduce the incidence of complications, and increase physician satisfaction with nursing care.
