Analysis of CBCT examination parameters in patients with temporomandibular joint disorders accompanied by unilateral chewing habits
Objective To analyze the parameters of cone beam CT(CBCT)examination in patients with temporomandibular joint disorders(TMD)accompanied by unilateral chewing habits. Methods 62 TMD patients with unilateral chewing habits who were admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to December 2023 were selected as the observation group, and 30 healthy examinees were selected as the control group. Both groups underwent bilateral CBCT scans and parallel 3D reconstruction. The temporomandibular joint(TMJ)parameters of the two groups were compared. Results There was no significant difference in the parameters and indicators of bilateral TMJ in the control group(P>0.05).In the observation group, the inner outer diameter of the condyle on the habitual side was smaller than that on the non habitual side, and the height of the condyle was greater than that on the non habitual side(P<0.05).The inner outer diameter, anterior posterior diameter, neck thickness, posterior joint space, and intra joint space of the observation group were shorter than or smaller than those of the control group on both sides, while the anterior joint space was larger than that of the control group on both sides(P<0.05).The anterior posterior diameter and condylar neck thickness of the non habitual side in the observation group were smaller than those on both sides of the control group, and the anterior articular space was larger than that on both sides of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The CBCT examination parameters of TMD patients with unilateral chewing habits show certain changes in the bilateral TMJ structure, posterior displacement of the habitual side condyle, and compensatory enlargement of the anterior joint space on the non habitual side.
