The impact of local governments' innovation drive on regional coordinated development
Based on the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2008 to 2020,this paper measures local governments'innovation drive and regional coordinated development,and explores the impact of local governments'innovation drive on regional coordinated development through the spatial Durbin model.Three findings are drawn.First,local governments'innovation drive can significantly promote regional coordinated development,but there are obvious regional differences.Specifically,the eastern and central regions have a more significant role in promoting regional coordinated development,while the western region has no significant role in promoting regional coordinated development.Second,local governments'innovation drive has a positive spatial spillover effect on regional coordinated development,and this spatial spillover effect is different in the east,central,west and northeast regions.Third,the popularization of the Internet and the city size are not in the appropriate range,which will inhibit the coordinated development of regions,and the improvement of the basic conditions of transportation and the level of population urbanization can promote the coordinated development of regions.It is suggested that we should strengthen the innovation drive of local governments,and actively play their role in promoting regional coordinated development;we should strengthen inter-regional cooperation and exchanges and jointly promote a new pattern of coordinated regional development;we should work together to advance coordinated regional development from multiple perspectives.
