Research review on syntactic complexity of oral English from the perspective of complex dynamic systems theory
The study of L2 oral syntactic complexity can clearly present the learners'oral syntactic development process and effectively predict their oral development level.By reviewing the measurement indicators of oral English syntactic complexity,this paper attempts to construct a systematic measurement system of L2 oral syntactic complexity and systematically sort out the empirical researches on oral syntactic complexity from the perspective of complex dynamic systems theory.It is found that the selection of syntactic analysis unit has not yet reached a unified agreement;less attention has been paid to the measurements of the sub-clause level complexity and the syntactic diversity;the scope of subjects is narrow.Future research should select the analysis unit according to the actual situation;the measurement indicators should consider the depth and breadth of syntax,pay attention to the sub-clause level complexity,take into account the two kinds of sentence structures,including the subordination and coordination,and use more fine-grained indicators to investigate the syntactic diversity;the scope of subjects should be expanded to different stages.By systematically sorting out the measurement indicators of syntactic complexity,this study hopes to provide reference for subsequent oral syntactic research.
