Establishment of Japanese Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) Families and Comparison of Their Growth Traits in Juvenile Stage
A total of 14 families were established using parents Japanese Flounder from Zhoushan in East China Sea with an artificial insemination.Thirty 120-days-old juvenile fishs were measured in each family for body length, total length and body weigh. The growth traits among families and the individual body weight variations in each family were compared. The results showed that there were extremely significant differences in the total length, body length and body weight among families.Family No.1,3,4,10,11 and 14 were the faster growth family group. The order was 310111144 by their body weight, and 314141110 by total length.Family No.2 had the largest individual body weight variation.Family No.3 had the smallest body weight variation and showed a significant growth advantage.Family No.3′s average body weight was 35% more than the smallest family. The study is helpful for further family selective breeding of Paralichthys olivaceus of Zhoushan population and provide a good breeding material.
