Study on the Preparation and Performance of M-phenylene Unsaturated Polyester Resin Modified Asphalt for Bridge Deck Pavement
In order to enhance the crack resistance of bridge deck pavement and simultaneously mitigate water-in-duced diseases such as potholes, this study developed a m-phenylene unsaturated polyester resin(UP)modified asphalt mixtures for bridge deck pavement and investigated the formulation and performance. The optimal formula-tion of UP modified asphalt was determined through viscosity, dynamic shear rheology(DSR),and tensile tests.Subsequently, the rheological and tensile properties of the modified asphalt were examined. Finally, comparative e-valuations were conducted on road performance of UP modified asphalt mixtures. The results show that UP modified asphalt exhibits excellent high-temperature rheological properties, and surpasses those of SBS-modified asphalt significantly. Moreover,UP modified asphalt demonstrates superior flexibility compared to epoxy modified asphalt and has a more cost-effectiveness with a price approximately 57%lower than that of epoxy asphalt.Additionally, the tensile properties and high temperature stability of UP modified asphalt mixtures are significantly better than those of SBS-modified asphalt mixtures. They have better resistance to cracking at low temperatures and water-induced damage, compared with epoxy asphalt mixtures.
