Metaphor research has fundamentally instantiated a cognitive turn,which has upgraded metaphor from an ordinary figure of speech in traditional rhetoric to the core cognitive mechanism of human mind.It is necessary for the academic community to design and conduct a series of psycholinguistic experiments to observe in real time the operation process of the human brain,the"black box"that lingers in the background,where we resort to the cognitive mechanism of metaphor to ponder on certain entities.Sorting through the development of conceptual metaphor theory and based on the main views of cognitive metaphor processing research,this paper pinpoints the importance of psycholinguistic experiments for cognitive metaphor studies,and the current situation and trends of experimental methods of the investigation.The paper also discusses the experimental paradigm and data collection for metaphor investigation,in an attempt to propose some implications and suggestions for further in-depth surveys of metaphor comprehension and processing,and to probe into metaphor's nature empirically.
