With the application of paratexts,exemplified by front cover,foreword,preface,introduction,footnotes,illustrations and indexes,The Washing Away of Wrongs:Forensic Medicine in Thirteenth-Century China translated by Brain E.McKnight tried to interpret the ancient Chinese forensic medicine,so as to intensify the academic elucidation of Chinese classics of forensic medicine,restore the vigorous feature of the legal system during the Song dynasty,and reconstruct a"scientific"image of the ancient Chinese forensic medicine.The overseas popularity of McKnight's translation demonstrates the importance of the thick translation strategy.Skillful application of translation methods of integrating research in translation by respecting the differences between cultures,as well as of making reasonable annotations flexibly can be a more constructive approach to overseas transmission of Chinese classics of forensic medicine.
