A Way Out for Indians:Formation of Communities in Sherman Alexie's Reservation Blues
Sherman Alexie is an emerging American Indian novelist of the 20th century.Reservation Blues,the first novel of Sherman Alexie,depicts individual struggle of Indians,cultural collision,and the formation of three communities through the experience of Coyote Springs,an Indian blues band:Pan-Indian community,American-Indian-and-Afro-American community,and Indian-White community.The formation of Pan-Indian community is realized through inter-tribal consensus.The formation of American-Indian-and-Afro-American community is accomplished through ethnic minorities'unity.The formation of Indian-White community is fulfilled through adaptation and cooperation.Through the formation of these communities,American Indians get rid of the predicament in the multiculture,especially the white-dominated culture,and successfully find a long-term and effective way of self-development.
