大学英语的出路:转向专门用途英语,形成四年不断线

摘要
本文通过对比高中英语与大学英语,发现大学英语基本上重复高中英语模式.大学英语之所以能够存在是因为一种理念,即大学生必须把语言基础打扎实,必须达到大学英语四级要求和必须接受人文教育等.本文认为大学英语课程已失去了开设的依据,大学英语学分被不断压缩乃至最终取消是不可避免的,而出路就是改大学英语为专门用途英语.为此,我们设计了三类课程,让专门用途英语保持四年不断线.
Abstract
College English teaching repeats the model of high school English teaching in the aspect of English for General Purposes(EGP).All undergraduates are required to select college English courses simply because it is believed that they must lay a solid language foundation,pass College English Test-4 and receive liberal education.We believe,however,that the purpose of college English is to meet the students'needs to use English for their academic studies.Therefore,college English is English for Specific Purposes(ESP)rather than EGP.Since college English could not function properly,the paper suggests that it might be replaced by ESP,which should be extended to four years.
