摘要
《"水仙号"上的黑水手》蕴含着约瑟夫·康拉德的道德观,体现了其对构建跨民族共同体的追求."水仙号"商船的海上之旅是一场绝境中的自我发现之旅,是一次关于构建跨民族共同体的演练,也是一番对逐渐衰落的"日不落"帝国的劝诫.在康拉德的心目中,恪尽职守和团结友爱既是人们战胜内外双重考验的力量,也是消解傲慢和偏见,进而建立和谐共生的跨民族共同体所必备的道德条件.然而,康拉德建立在"英国性"基础上的愿景夹杂着其对英国殖民主义的矛盾态度,这终究使其无法完全融入英国民族共同体.自家国破碎之后,康拉德始终未能真正找到灵魂的安放之处.
Abstract
The novel The Nigger of the Narcissus:A Tale of the Sea embodies Joseph Conrad's moral philosophy,revealing his pursuit of trans-ethnic community.The voyage of the merchant ship"Narcissus"is a journey of self-discovery in extreme circumstances,an exercise in constructing a trans-ethnic community,and a cautionary tale for the declining British Empire.For Conrad,the courage to take responsibility and the spirit of unity and friendship are the forces that help people overcome both internal and external corruption.These qualities are also the moral prerequisites for eliminating arrogance and prejudice,thus establishing a harmonious and coexistent trans-ethnic community.However,Conrad's vision,grounded in"Britishness",is tinged with his ambivalent attitude towards British colonialism,ultimately preventing him from fully integrating into the British community.After the fragmentation of his homeland,he never truly found a place for his soul.
