Objective To explore the application value of improved periodic acid-silver metheramine(PAM)staining method in renal pathology.Methods Eighty renal biopsy samples with pathology diagnosis from September 2020 to March 2022 were randomly selected from Hangzhou TCM Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang Chinese Medical University(including 20 cases of IgA nephropathy,20 cases of membranous nephropathy,20 cases of diabetic nephropathy,and 20 cases of minimal change disease).The histological features stained by modified PAM with thiocarbazone were compared to the ones stained by the conventional PAM method.Results The staining intensity of the glomerular basement membrane and tubular basement membrane was significantly improved by the modified PAM staining method.There were significant differences in staining intensity among different diseases and positive sites of both glomeruli and interstitium(P<0.05).Conclusion The modified PAM staining can significantly improve the sensitivity and specificity of staining,which is faster and reliable,and more suitable for routine work.
