Objective To explore the clinical effect of preserving the posterior glandular branch of the superior thyroid artery in protecting the external branch of superior laryngeal nerve function. Methods The 124 thyroid surgery patients admitted between January 2019 and December 2022 were divided into observation group and control groups, with 62 patients in each group. The posterior glandular branch of the superior thyroid artery was retained in the observation group, but not in the control group. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, postoperative cough and low-key pronunciation in the two groups were analyzed. Results Between the two groups, intraoperative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, were not different(P>0.05),the observation group had no postoperative cough and low-key pronunciation. In the control group,6 cases of postoperative drinking cough and 11 cases of low pronunciation, and the difference was significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The preservation of the posterior glandular branch of the superior thyroid artery during thyroid surgery protects the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve and blood transport, and can significantly reduce the damage of the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve during thyroid surgery, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
