Objective To investigate the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS)as an add-on treatment for depression in adolescents and adults using naturalistic methods in the real world. Methods A retrospective analysis of 198 patients(including 85 adolescents and 113 adults)treated with 10 treatments of high-frequency rTMS in the left dorsolateral prefrontal lobe was retrospectively analyzed. The Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)and Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)were assessed 2 weeks before and after treatment, treatment effectiveness and cure rates were compared across age groups, and correlation analyses were performed. Results There was statistically significant difference in the comparison of treatment efficacy between the adolescent and adult groups(P<0.05).In addition, after two weeks of treatment, there was a positive correlation between the percentage reduction in HAMD and HAMA scores in the adolescent group. Conclusion Add-on rTMS is feasible and effective in adolescent depression, especially for the treatment of this age group.
