Clinical Study of Straight-Side Acupuncture in Treatment of Ankylosing Spondylitis
Objective:To explore the therapeutic effect of straight-side acupuncture in treatment of ankylosing spondylitis.Methods:A total of 90 patients with ankylosing spondylitis were randomly divided into the control group,the acupuncture group,and the straight-side acupuncture group,with 30 patients in each group.The control group was treated with conventional medication;on which basis,the acupuncture group was treated with ordinary acupuncture and the straight-side acupuncture group was treated with straight-side acupuncture.The treatment duration was four weeks.The physical signs,functions,as well as imaging and laboratory indicators were observed before and after the treatment in each group.Clinical efficacy was compared among the groups.Results:After 4 weeks of treatment,the overall effective rate was 96.67％(29/30)in the straight-side acupuncture group,which was higher than 90％(27/30)in the acupuncture group and 73.33％(22/30)in the control group(P＜0.05).The time of morning stiffness,thoracic mobility,and occiput-wall distance were significantly improved in the three groups;the improvements were more significant in the straight-side acupuncture group than those in the acupuncture group and the control group(P＜0.05).The limb function,body pain,and bone marrow edema of sacroiliac joints were also significantly improved in the three groups.The scores of BASFI,VAS and SPARCC were decreased after the treatment in the three groups(P＜0.05),and the decreases were more significant in the straight-side acupuncture group than those in the acupuncture group and the control group(P＜0.05).The levels of ESR,CRP,IgA,IgG and IgM were significantly decreased after the treatment than those before the treatment in the three groups(P＜0.05),and the decreases were more significant than those in the straight-side acupuncture group than those in the acupuncture group and the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion:Straight-side acupuncture has a significant therapeutic effect in treatment of ankylosing spondylitis,which is superior to the combination of ordinary acupuncture and medication.It can effectively alleviate the pain of patients with ankylosing spondylitis,improve limb function,significantly reduce the level of inflammatory factors,improve immune function,and reduce the degree of bone marrow edema in the sacroiliac joint,which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
