Abstract

Pain has always been a major public health concern worldwide and is in urgent need of resolution.Acupuncture is a well-established method for pain relief, with the advantage of comprehensive regulation.Acupuncture not only improves specific functional impairments in pain patients but also has a comprehensive impact on pain perception, emotions, cognition, and social aspects. The brain serves as the highest central nervous system in the process of acupuncture analgesia, with the hippocampus, involved in learning, memory, and emotional regulation, participating in the multidimensional formation and regulation of pain.As research on the brain mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia deepens, the mechanism by which acupuncture regulates the hippocampus to alleviate pain from multiple perspectives deserves attention and may become a focal point for unraveling the mysteries of acupuncture analgesia mechanisms. Therefore, this study reviewed and discussed the role of the hippocampus in pain and its mediation of acupuncture analgesia, providing a reference for further research.
